Small Business Month
Posted on May 09 2023
Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the foundation of the U.S. economy. Early settlers in the 1600s developed small businesses that traded crops, supplies and services. After the independence of our nation in 1776, small businesses began to boom during the first industrial revolution until 1850, and this was followed by a second industrial revolution with further business expansion into the early 1900s. Recognizing the importance of small businesses in the economy, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) was created in 1953 to “aid, counsel, assist, and protect, insofar as is possible, the interests of small business concerns.” America’s small business further developed during the following decades, including great interest in entrepreneurship which continues to the present. Today, 32.2 million small businesses make up 99.9% of the businesses in the U.S.; and employ 61.7 million people.
Entrepreneurs and small business owners start with a strong vision, and use their courage, hard work and passion to develop their plan and create success. They continue to develop new ideas and impact us and the economy in so many important ways.
