January is International Creativity Month, a great way for a new year refresh. So get your creativity juices going and flowing! Choose any way that appeals to you!
Creativity can be expressed in different ways. Here are some definitions of creativity:
“The ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination.”
“Creativity is best described as the ability to generate original and valuable ideas or works by using one's imagination, often involving combining existing concepts in new ways to produce something novel and useful.”
“Creativity is defined as the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others”
“Why is creativity important?” Reflections of this question was shared by thirty people who immersed themselves in a shared creative experience this way:
- “Creativity engages the mind and frees the mind in a way that enables a person to absorb knowledge more easily. It makes processing learning more efficient and enables alternative ways of thinking. It unblocks old patterns or habits of thinking. It allows for non-linear thinking.”
- “Creativity connects us to ourselves. It opens our hearts and doors to our mind. It brings us to hidden parts of ourselves. It allows recognition of uniqueness and identity. It can help draw out what is already there within – hidden talents and inner capacities can emerge. It connects us with our passions.”
- “Creative participation nurtures a sense of togetherness. It brings people together and can nurture skills in teamwork and cooperation. It inspires collective thinking.”
- “Creativity challenges. It stimulates and motivates. Creativity allows us to view and solve problems more openly and with innovation. It keeps the mind active.”
- “Creativity is fun and joyful and surprising!”
