Spring Ahead!

March is the month of daylight savings time and the vernal equinox

Daylight Savings Time (DST) is the practice of moving the clocks forward one hour during the summer months and changing them back again in the fall. This procedure allows us all to use natural daylight better: moving the clocks forward one hour in the spring grants us more daylight during summer evenings, while moving clocks back one hour in the fall grants us more daylight during winter mornings. Clocks will officially spring forward at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2024.

The word equinox comes from the Latin words for “equal night”—aequus (equal) and nox (night). On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world. On the March or Vernal Equinox, the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere receive roughly equal amounts of sunlight; neither hemisphere is tilted more toward or away from the Sun than the other. This year, the March equinox happens on March 19 at 11:06 P.M. EDT.

The vernal equinox signals new beginnings and nature’s renewal. Many cultures celebrate spring festivals. Here are some ideas for celebrating Spring!

-Plant seeds! The first day of spring is a traditional day to start in the garden! There’s nothing more restorative!

-Generate Movement! While we may have been a bit sedentary in the winter months, Spring is the perfect time to jumpstart outdoor physical activity.

-Go to a farmer’s market and support your local farmers and artisans!

Our favorite fabric for Spring clothing and an active lifestyle is hemp.

Hemp is completely natural and eco-friendly, perfect for exercise clothes and gym wear because of its breathability, its moisture-wicking properties and the fact that it is antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial.
